Jan 8 (Reuter) - The Thai government is clamping down on exiled Burmese
dissidents who try to use Thailand to campaign against Burma's military
goverment, the Bangkok Post reported on Saturday. Such activities have
damaged relations between Bangkok and Rangoon, thenewspaper quoted Deputy
National Security Council chief Khachadpai Burusapatanaas saying.
Khachadpai said Thailand will stop non-governmental organisations
fromfinancing trips abroad for Burmese dissidents opposed to the Rangoon
regime, thePost reported. Thailand recently refused entry visas to five senior
Burmese dissidents whohad been lobbying against Burma's government at the
United Nations in New York. The five include Sein Win, the prime minister of
a dissidentgovernment-in-exile, which is based in Karen guerrilla territory
in southeastBurma and accessible only from Thailand. Khachadpai said Burmese
refugees in Thailand would be watched to preventanti-Rangoon activities, and
aid organisations would be monitored to ensure theydid not break Thai law.
