NO CASUALTIES IN BURMA QUAKE

Rangoon-- An earthquake shook an area of sparsely populated villages in 
western Burma on Sunday night.  THeThe official media did not report any 
injuries or damage.

The quake occurred at 8:45pm about 72km west of Minbu, north of Rangoon, 
the official newspaper New Light of Myanmar quoted the Meteorological 
Department as saying.   That would put it near the Bay of Bengal.

The department said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.6.

The US Geological Survey's national earthquake information centre in 
Golden, Colorado, reported a 6.2 reading and said the magnitude and 
location of the quake made damage likely.
