RANGOON, Burma (AP) -- Burma and Laos have signed an agreement on
delineating their common border, it was announced Monday.
They also signed an agreement to establish a joint commission
for cooperation and another on tourism cooperation, said a joint
communique issued at the end of Burmese leader Gen. Than Shwe's
five-day visit to Laos.
It was Than Shwe's first foreign trip since he became chairman
of Burma's military junta in April 1992.
Burma and Laos are separated by a 150-mile stretch of the Mekong
River. Under the agreement, a fixed boundary will be drawn along
the river, instead of taking the often-changing water channel as
the border.
