Statement from Boarder Monks
The Analytical Statement of the Monks of the Boarder Area about DKBO's
Words Irrelevant to its Deeds - 5/3/95 - (Translation in breif)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Judging from their words and deeds, one can clearly see that DKBO is
nothing more than a stooge for SLORC. They have no leading principles of
their own, instead, they only reflect the extensively publicized, three
political objectives of SLORC, that is, to uphold the so called "three
great causes".
They loudly proclaim to uphold and enhance peace and prosperity, posting
themselves as if they were apostles of Buddha and to strive for
political, social and economic freedom in the Karen State, in order to
deliver the people from their plight. But, in actual practice, they are
mere stooges of SLORC, who undermined all the democratic rights of the
people and took over power by force.
Once, DKBO leaders were those who understood very well about the
oppression made by SLORC and condemned this, and actively took part
against the SLORC. But now they worship SLORC as their god-father and
saviour. It's really amazing for the people to understand their waivering
behaviour.
In order to deceive the people, DKBO laid down four oaths for their
followers, quite similar to that of SLORC. But as traitors to their
former cause we should analyse the value behind these oaths, to reveal
their true morale.
1. They pledge that they are ready to safeguard the interest of their
people and uphold religion.
The acts of atrocities such as capturing, kidnapping, torturing,
raping, killing, looting, stealing of precious gold and jewelleries from
famous pagodeas and buying weapons to kill people, are continuously
committed against people by SLORC. Can we say that those who committed
all the above mentioned crimes against the innocent peoples are really
those who safeguard the interest of the people and religion? DKBO are
birds of the same feather with SLORC.
2. They pledge that they shall be loyal to their leaders. Who are their
leaders? As mentioned above, their actual leaders are SLORC, which means
they have to pay loyalty to SLORC, as traitors to the people and also as
hypocirites against the teaching of Lord Buddha.
3. They pledge that they shall safeguard the interest of the people, but
they collaborate with SLORC, committing inhuman atrocities against
refugees, forcing them to go back to SLORC to face further atrocities and
agony. As such, are these, the deeds that service the interest of the
people? No, its a mere mischief to get SLORC's favour.
4. They pledge that they should maintain good conduct. According to
Buddhist teaching to maintain good conduct is to live according to the
five commandments of Lord Buddha which as the ethical virtues in
Buddhism.
But, the episode that happened at Baw Naw refugee camp on
1/3/95 revealed their true characters, diametrically opposite to the five
commandments of the Lord Buddha.
At 1am these drunken DKBA intruded into the camp, bringing with them AK47
automatic rifles, one RPG, a Nato Machine Gun and hand granades. They
indiscriminately fired in the camp. One refugee was seriously injured and
one was killed. They, then looted shops, took away some jewelleries,
garments and medicines. After that they captured the old man called U San
Tun Kaing and his daughter and left the camp, after threatening the
refugees to go back to SLORC within five days, otherwise, they'll come
back again and kill them all.
The above episode revealed the true character of the DKBO which shows
that they are no more than the people who give allegiance to SLORC.
