In Japan the response to the NCGUB appeal to religious
organizations to remember Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on her
50th birthday is extremely enthusiastic. From Friday, June
16th through June 19th, in churches, temples, mosques, and
synagogues around the country, prayers will be offered on
her behalf and for democacy in Burma.

We would like to urge all net readers to announce their
democracy-related events widely to the media and also to
pass on accounts that are published.

BRC--J invites anyone able to join to come to Nara on the
18th of June when we will:

GIVE LIFE'S MOST PRECIOUS GIFT FOR SUU KYI'S
BIRTHDAY: FREEDOM

This June 19, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma's detained
democratic leader, turns 50. In honor of her birthday,
Burmese Relief Center--Japan will release 50 koi (carp) into
Kagami Pond in front of Todaiji Temple in Nara. This
ancient Buddhist tradition, called "jojoe" in Japanese and
"jivita dana" in Pali, is a wish for the Nobel Peace Prize
Laureate's own release and for the liberation of all creatures
from suffering. We invite everyone to share in the merit.

Date: Sunday, June 18
Time: 1 p.m.
Place: Kagami Pond, Todaiji Temple, Nara

Lunch will be offered to the Sangha at 10 a.m. at Konshuin
(in front of Nigatsudo). All are welcome.
