We have heard that Slorc's representative will be attending the
28th meeting of the Asean Foreign Ministers as a guest of the
host in Brunei on 29th-30th July, 1995.

The release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Nobel Peace laureate is
identified as a constructive sign, but it is very hard to
discover Burma's future. Hundreds of political prisoners
including student leader Min Ko Naing, are still detained in
different jails in Burma.

Sorrowfully, countless human rights violations such as forced
labor are still being perpetuated. Approximately two million
forced labors have been working for various constructions
throughout the country.

The Slorc military regime has broken its "gentleman agreement"
for cease-fire with the Karenni National Progressive Party and
captured one of the KNPP's two main camps last week.

The most important purpose of dialogue for national
reconciliation and internal stability offered by Daw Aung San Suu
Kyi has not been responded, to.

Actually, the Slorc military regime should not be invited even as
a guest to attend the annual Asean Foreign Ministers' meeting. We
the students hope that Asean would not hurry in embracing Burma
under the military rule. Moreover, we would like Asean to
reconsider to change the "constructive engagement" policy to
Burma which does not work for the real advantages of the people
of Burma and threatens regional security of Southeast Asia.
