THE NEW MON STATE PARTY
GENERAL HEADQUARTERS
Statement on Daw Aung Suu Kyi release from house arrest.
- Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was detained under house arrest by the State
Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC) since 20th July 1989 and
was released unconditionally on the 10th July 1995.
.
-1he New Mon State Party (NMSP) welcomes her release with profound
gladness and deeply deems lt to be a process uf promotion to
dountrywide peace.
- The atmosphere would be much better if all oter incarcerated political
prisoners still under detentiuon are sooner released.
- The responsibility of solving the problems of peace and development
lies on all the polltical parties. The best method of settling the
differences
over them is by sincere compromise.
- The SLORC has already, negotiated a cease-fire with 15 ethnic
nationalities and has met with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi twice already,
After analyzing the dramatically changing situation in our country,
bearing in mind the future prosperity of our country the SLORC, the
ethnic peoples and the democratic opposition could come into an
amicable reconciliation, the SMSP firmly believes that genuine peace
could be attained.
Therefore, looking forward to such an ends the NMSP believingly urge
all the political forces to exert their utmost endeavors.
Internal peace must be attained

THE NEW MON STATE PARTY
GENERAL HEADQUARTERS
Position of the New Mon State Party (NMSP) on recurrence of armed
conflict between the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC)
and the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP).
A cease-fire agreement was reached between the State Law and Order
Restoration Council (SLORC) and Karenni National Progressive Party
(KNPP) on 21st Mach 1995 But since 30th June 1995, news came out
that there were intensive recurrences of armed conflict between
them.
- Even though lt is not know why the recurrence of armed conflict came
about, the New Mon State Party (NMSP} with much concern regrets its
occurrence.
- With the intention of restoring peace and regional development, 15
ethnic nationalities and the SLOUCH have already negotiated a cease-
fire.
- It is quite natural that difficult problems could occur during
cease-fire
period. But to hold on the cease-fire, the best way to solve them is by
peaceful dialogue. The NMSP believes that with noble perseverance on
both sides, amicable solution could be successfully reached.
Therefore in future if there be differences between whatever armed
organizations, the NMSP urges earnestly that any confrontation, that
crop up be solved by peaceful negotiation.
