BURMA ACTION DIRECTORY-VOLUME III

                      BURMA ACTION DIRECTORY (BAD)

                           UPDATE OCTOBER 1995

PART III -- LISTS OF CORPORATIONS AND THE OPPOSITION

This Directory, which is in constant evolution, is a networking
tool for the Burma support community. It also lists some of the
people and institutions whose decisions will influence Burma's
future. It does not try to cover the whole of the Burma support
community or the organisations involved in Burma. Many of the
groups and individuals have specialized interests and information
which may be mentioned where not obvious from their titles. The
Directory is in three parts: thematic, geographic and corporate.
There is much overlap. BAD is particularly weak on media,
academics and governments. Please send corrections and additions
to the Burma Peace Foundation, which will put out a BAD UPDATE
from time to time on reg.burma, soc.cult.burma etc.

PROVISIONAL AND PARTIAL LIST OF CORPORATIONS INVESTING IN BURMA

Addresses etc are included where known. If anyone has a list or
the time to do the homework, please send missing names of CEOs,
addresses, fax and phone numbers and profiles of companies. If
anyone, eg a student, has access to Nexis, that is a good source
of company information. Please send disks of new info to BPF.

Numerically, most projects and joint ventures are from China,
Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Very few of these are listed
here, for reasons of space and pressure-sensitivity.

SOME COMPANIES LISTED HERE MAY HAVE PULLED OUT FOR POLITICAL OR
OTHER REASONS, OR HAVE COMPLETED THE PROJECT THEY WENT IN FOR.
THE FIRST APPROACH TO A COMPANY SHOULD BE TO ASK IF IT IS
STILL INVOLVED IN BURMA.

The parent company is placed IN UPPER CASE. Where a contract is
with a subsidiary, this company is placed (in round brackets).

JV = joint venture

UMEH = Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings, consisting of serving
or retired military, whose office is locatd in the Ministry of
Defence in Rangoon.

MOGE = Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise - State body which controls
oil and gas investment and is the required(?) joint-venture
partner

MOU = Memorandum of Understanding

0GIS = Oil and gas industry services

The date given is either the date a contract was signed, or the
last known date the company was active in the coountry

PLEASE SEND UPDATES TO THE BURMA PEACE BOUNDATION
