Subject: Foreign Minister Ohn Gyaw and his naked hypocrisy

In a recent article (Chavalit tries some shuttle diplomacy in bid to sway
Rangoon by YINDEE LERTCHAROENCHOK, The Nation/18.12.95) Slors minister Ohn
Gyaw is quoted as saying:

"The government has no policy to impose on another
government that you must pay compensation. It's the thinking of
local people that when these people are fully compensated,
because they lost their husbands, their dear ones, then this
matter can be resolved. This is the way the local people are
thinking," he said.

This was said in the context of Slorc's demand for $100 million as a
condition to settle the on-going Thai-Burmese border dispute.

This is the most hypocritical statement I have heard in a long time. How
could an official from the illegitimate SLORC made such statement while the
junta he serves most humbly is THE source of sufferings for the 45 million
hostages including the country's legitimate leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
herself? How is his Slorc going to repay the sufferings the of 10,000
students who fled the country after the bloody crackdown? How about those
students, monks, ethnic and religious minorities, innocent villagers, women,
and children tortured, raped, mudered, buried alive, and pillaged by the
malicious Slorc forces since 1962 (SLORC and BSPP are not much different
except in name)?

It would cause Slorc billions of dollars to compensate for the losses and
damages, which it has inflicted on my people with the sole aim of holding
onto power--if it were possible at all to repay the deads.

Ohn Gyaw should think twice before he utters such rubbish in the future.
