URGENT GLOBAL ACTION AGAINST THE SLORC IS NEEDED.

Despite increased international condemnation, the
ruling military regime in Burma, namely State Law
and Order Restoration Council (SLORC), has not
shown any sign of interest to transfer state power
to the National League for Democracy (NLD). The
"National Convention" which is being sponsored,
dominated and exploited by the SLORC has planned
to complete its drawing of a "constitution" of
Burma at the end of this year. The NLD withdrew
from this SLORC's Convention, citing the fact that
it doesn't represent the people. It has planned to
convene its own "Parliamentary Congress" from 26th
to 29th May in Rangoon, in which all the elected
Members of Parliament from the NLD will be
gathering for the first time. The military regime
has responded the NLD's plan with renewed
crackdown on the party and its supporters. More
than 200 NLD supporters including Secretary to
Aung San Suu Kyi and some elected Members of
Parliament (NLD) were arrested between 20th to
25th May 1996. NLD is likely to be banned by the
military government in the near future. Therefore,
Burma is going to face, once again, a stormy and
alarming political outrage in the near future
along with the SLORC's more vigorous oppression.
We would urgently like to call upon the
international community to take up any possible
strongest action against the ruling military
government in Burma and urge the oppressed people
of the world particularly to unite and remove the
SLORC from power.

We would like to request the people of the world:

1) To strongly condemn the SLORC for its recent
arrest of more than 200 NLD supporters
including Secretary to Aung San Suu Kyi and
     some Members of Parliament,
2) To condemn the SLORC-fabricated "National
Convention" and not to recognize any result
     of this convention,
3) To extend support and solidarity to the NLD
for its "Parliamentary Congress" in which all
the elected Members of Parliament from the
NLD party are going to meet,
4) To condemn all the foreign companies and
countries which are doing business with the
     military regime in Burma,
5) To boycott SLORC-designated "Visit Myanmar
Year, 1996" and urge holiday-makers to stay
     away from visiting Burma and
6) To work out for global economic sanctions
against the military regime in Burma.

Thanking you,
Sincerely yours,

Central Committee
