Condemnation of ruthless arrest of NLD MPs and political activists by
Slorc.

Since 22nd May 1996 the military junta Slorc has arrested, detained
over 250 NLD MPs and other political activists, preventing them from
attending the conference as scheduled to hold on 26 to 28 May 1996 at
Daw Aung San Suu Kyis residence in Rangoon.

In spite its landslide victory in 1990 May general election Slorc has
not transferred power to the NLD yet.

Through out this year Slorc launched numerous oppressive steps
toward Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other NLD leaders. Daw Aung
San Suu Kyi called a national reconciliation several times after her
release on 10th July last years. But Slorc kept its deaf ears turned to
her call for dialogue.

Seeing the political situation of her country Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
could not wait any more and she invited all parties conference to be
held on 26 to 28 May.

To prevent the NLD MPs attending the meeting SLORC started
arresting MPs and political activists and held arrested over 250 of
them.

To condemned and denounce the SLORCs unlawful illegal
crackdown, there has been mass gathering and poster campaign at
Moreh, Indo-Burma border in which activists from NLD/LA,
ABSDF(WB), ABSL, OKSO, AASYU, KSDF, B, DSB and over sea
democratic forces, members of student organisation of India, Burmese
people and local people participated.
