          Junta-sponsored mass rallies condemn Myanmar 'destructionists'



     Myanmar's ruling junta, apparently spooked by the Aung San Suu
Kyi's opposition party meeting in Yangon, has sponsored mass rallies
in various parts of the country from Monday to condemn the
''destructionists.''
     Government television and newspapers are reporting widely on the
rallies ''to support government development works'' and ''condemn
destructionists,'' but has not mentioned the ongoing meeting of Suu
Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) in the capital.
