>>>>>MYANMAR SLAMS INTERFERENCE IN INTERNAL AFFAIRS

May 31, 1996
Straits Times 5/31
YANGON --
"Those neo-colonialists begrudge Myanmar its strategic position in Asia and
its rich natural resources and could not bear to see it so close to and
friendly and cooperative with a big country of the East -- one that will one
day become so strong as to vie with them and keep them in check."

Myanmar has close relations with China, and buys a majority of its military
hardware from its northern neighbour. ....

My contribution:
"A country has no friends, just interests" - Working People's Daily, Burma.

Insidious anti-Chinese sentiments prevail even today that manifested itself
in the 1967 Anti-Chinese riots. Now, they need a big friend. Yes, politics
make strange bedfellows!

 .......
Lu Ni, Mandalay Institute of Education Rector, told a rally ....
"The West is accusing that people are being forced to
work....Had they forgotten that poor Chinese people were brought to San
Francisco...and forced to work as slaves in building a railroad during the
time the United States was being established?" it asked.
---------------------------------------------------------
Dear U Lu Ni,
Yes, poor Chinese coolies worked to built the transcontinental railroad
during the 1800's but NOT as slaves. Yes, they were discriminated against at
that time (and still is to some extent) but as slaves, NO!

They came of their own free will to work and build a better life and yes, to
build America!
