UK Pacific Media, Germany Bertelsmann Set Up Asia Company
 
 
   HONG KONG (AP-Dow Jones)--London-listed Pacific Media PLC and a subsid=
iary of
Germany's Bertelsmann AG agreed Wednesday to set up an Internet-related =
and
computer on-line services company in Asia. 
   No name was provided for the company in a statement. 
   Pacific Media is a partner of Hong Kong's Shaw family in the Chinese =
Channel,
a European-based Chinese-language satellite channel, according to the
statement. 
   With Bertelsmann Zentrale Informationsverabeitung GmbH (BZI), Pacific =
Media
aims to develop Internet services in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Malaysia,
Singapore, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and the
Philippines. 
   The company said it will initially seek to develop or acquire local =
Internet
services in the regiov. 
   On June 2, the subsidiary bought a 49.9% stake in Hong Kong Supernet, =
one of
the territory's larger service providers. singapore government-backed =
Sembawang
Media holds the remaining 50.1% of the company.
