SUU KYI SPEAKS ON THE STREET

SUU KYI SPEAKS TO THE PEOPLE, IN DEFIANCE OF SLORC

BBC World Service (English language), in several news
bulletins of Saturday 2 November, most recently 22.00 GMT,
reported that:

"The Burmese opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, has
addressed supporters near her home in Rangoon for the first
time in several weeks, despite efforts by security forces to
prevent crowds from gathering. Several hundred people were
dispersed by police when they tried to approach her home. They
reassembled nearby. Aung San Suu Kyi arrived by car and spoke
for a few minutes, urging her supporters to be brave and
patient. She has been prevented from giving her regular
weekend speeches since the end of September when the
authorities set up blockades outside her home."
