RANGOON -- Burma and China have signed
agreements for border cooperation and
agricultural
development, the state-run newspaper
New Light
of Myanmar reported Wednesday.
The agreement on border cooperation
was signed
by Luo Gan, secretary-general of
China's State
Council, and Gen. Khin Nyunt, head of
Burma's
military intelligence.
The two countries share a
2,200-kilometer border.
A separate agricultural agreement was
signed by
Gen. David Abel, Burma's minister for
national
planning and economic development,
and Yang
Wanqian, a Chinese vice foreign minister.
Under the agreement, China is to
grant Burma 5
million yuan ($609,000) for technical
cooperation
and purchase of Chinese agricultural
equipment.
The Chinese officials who signed are in a
delegation making a five-day visit to
Burma
ending Friday.
