Appreciation to Dr Brown

To,

Senator Bob Brown
Australian Greens Senator for Tasmania,
The Senate, Parliament House,
Canberra ACT 2600

12 May 1997

Dear Senator Brown,

On behalf of All Young Burmese League members and Burmese Community, I would
like to sincerely thank you for your concern and courage to take up issue
for the people of Burma.

The political situation in Burma continuses to deteriorate and at the same
time there is a dramatical increase of the mysterious disappearance of Daw
Aung San Suu Kyi's supporters. There is neither hope nor future for the
Burmese people as long as they are under the tyranny of the SLORC. With the
economic backing up from the ASEAN members and China, SLORC has gained
confidence to a great extent that it is now carrying out ehtnic cleansing
activities along the Thai-Burma border and openly threatening Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi's life inside Burma. As the circumstances are worsening it is of
greatest imporant athat Australia Governement does not hesitate but join the
US on sanctions and send a clear message tot he SLORC that there is no
future for the oppressive military regime in the twenty first century.

You have shown your fighting spirit for democracy and human rights for
Burmese people by initiating a Motion in the Senate calling on the
Australian government to impose sanctions on SLORC. Your humanitarian action
will always be remembered.

We all thank you and all Senators who joined you in supporting the Motion.
Faithfully yours,

Kenenth Oo
