The Thai Rangers

This background information about the Thai rangers from AP should be
appended to the original story regarding rangers burning the FTUB camp.
History repeats itself if we let it.

 . . .

"The rangers, dressed in black, held 12 union members at gunpoint and said
their superiors had sent them to burn down the camp because the authorities
didn't want Myanmar exile groups in Thailand.

A paramilitary group known for abusing refugees along Thailand's borders,
the rangers are controlled by the Thai Army.

They were guilty of some of the most serious human rights violations against
Cambodian refugees during the 1970s and '80s.

The Free Trade Union of Burma is a small group of workers who fled the
country after the military crushed a nationwide democracy uprising in 1988."
