Rice cookers and bombs

Dear Friends,

The latest attempt by the Slorc to discredit the democracy movement of Burma
and Aung San Suu Kyi is proof of its growing desperation.

Instead of delivering a "good news story" prior to being admmitted to Asean,
they have clumsily cooked up an outrageous story, attempting to pass off a
rice cooker and photographs of public meetings as "evidence".

A two-hour monologue masquerading as an "expose" in no way detracts us from
the compelling evidence that the Slorc has mounted an vindictive offensive
against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi by targeting her relatives and in the case of
four of the five arrested, holding them hostage.

Perhaps, this is the Slorc's interpretation of Asean family values.

One thing is clear, the NCGUB and groups named by the Slorc in their
"expose", are accountable and respected organisations engaged in legitimate
activities.

The Slorc's hysterical and incredible allegations are laughable except for
the fact that they are being used to justify the unlawful detention, torture
and abuse of people.

Once again, the Slorc has exposed the truth that the Slorc itself is afraid
of the respect, support, credibility, and goodwill commanded by Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi, the NLD, NCGUB, NCUB, FTUB, ABSDF and KNU in the international
community.

The Slorc, too, can have some of this goodwill by immediately ceasing its
oppressive and destructive behaviour and opening up to peaceful tripartite
dialogue.

Let's pray it happens soon.

In solidarity,

Debbie Stothard
