AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL URGES ASEAN TO ACT ON HUMAN RIGHTS IN BURMA
	*****************************************************************

Amnesty International has urged the South East Asian
grouping, ASEAN, to take responsibility for protecting
          human rights in Burma.

The human rights group made the appeal on the eve of
Burma's entry into the regional group.

It's released a report detailing atrocities allegedly committed
against ethnic minorities in the east of Burma, amid mass
          relocations by the military authorities.

ASEAN will welcome Burma and Laos into the grouping on
          Wednesday.
