A Lesson From Myanmar History

To,
             Nemesis

We would like to reiterate that any argument over
historical documents covering the role the "Friends of Hill Peoples of
Burma- circa 1947" will have to be made with the author who recently
wrote on the subject in the Guardian Weekly July 27, 1997, and
broadcast on BBC TV earlier.

At the same time, we would urge the likes of "Nemesis" to
drop their hate-mongering rhetoric in favour of a peace-making prose if
all the blood letting is to come to an end ultimately.

If one looks at Vietnam, able to peace after more
bloodshed over a shorter period of time than Myanmar and many other
examples in the Middle East, Eastern Europe etc., it is will be prudent
to follow the inexorable trend of others towards a peaceful outcome.

Rather than criticizing and condemning the other former
armed insurgencies who have achieved what seem unattainable a decade
ago, perhaps it is time join the "Union" on the very same terms that
worked in their cases. To expect a 180=B0 turn-around of a trend
that resisted colonialism and foreign interference for half a century
would simply be an exercise in futility. And it so happens that this
trend is not just for Myanmar but is something that is sweeping through
much of Asia.
