(1)		Old Concepts, Ways Need be Changed to be Compatible 	 with National
Objectives 
 
		An opening ceremony of the Special Refresher Course No 3 for Development
Affairs Department Officers was held at Ohndaw Hall of the Central Institute
of Civil Service in Hlegu Township on 24 October with an address by Chairman
of the Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races
Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said DAD officers are discharging duties for rural and
urban development for uplift of socio-economic life of the public, and
special refresher courses are being conducted to let them understand the
State policy and objective, the Government's nation-building endeavours for
realization of the objectives and the disturbances to these endeavours, so
that they can shoulder their duties with farsightedness. All are aware that
the State Law and Order Restoration Council, in endeavouring for emergence of
a peaceful, modern and developed nation, laid down and is implementing the
political, economic and social objectives to bring about harmonious
multi-sectoral development, he said. The Secretary-1 urged them to try to
study their lessons to understand the State's political, economic and social
objectives and goal to be able to implement their task effectively, to strive
with national outlook in implementing urban and rural development functions
for the emergence of a peaceful, tranquil, modern and developed nation, to
successfully accomplish DAD functions for socio-economic progress of the
public and for successful realization of the course's noble aims. The
four-week course is being attended by 253 trainees.
 
(2)		Ceremony to Mark 52nd Anniversary of UN Held at Pyithu 	Hluttaw Building
 
		A ceremony to commemorate the 52nd Anniversary United Nations Day was held
at Thabin Hall of Pyithu Hluttaw building on Pyay Road (Yangon) on 24
October. Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw read the message from Senior
General Than Shwe on the occasion of the 52nd Anniversary United Nations Day.
Next, Resident Coordinator ai of the United Nations System and Resident
Representative of FAO Dr Prem Nath read the message from UN Secretary-General
Mr Kofi A Annan.
(3)		Conservation of Innlay Lake, Moebye Reservoir Vital for Engergy Sector

		Secretary-2 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo
attended to the needs of officials in beautifying Innlay lake and in
supplying water to irrigated areas in Kayah State  on 23 and 24 October. The
Secretary-2 and party observed inflow of water to Moebye Reservoir and Innlay
Lake by helicopter. Regional people's understanding and participation are
required to achieve success in conserving froest of Innlay region and in
beautifying the lake, he pointed out. Departments and the public should
harmoniously and actively join hands in implementing the tasks, he said,
stressing the need to draw a firm plan in cooperatively accomplishing the
task. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo said that organizations of Forest Department
and Irrigation Department have been extended and permanent staff have been
assigned duties at the lake region to prevent against silting in Innlay,
which is a naturally formed lake.

(4)		Minister Visits Yadana Offshore Gas Project

		Minister for Energy U Khin Maung Thein visited Yadana Offshore Gas Project
on 24 October. At Rig 2, Managing Director of Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise
U Kyaw Nyein, General Manager Mr H Madeo of Total Myanmar Exploration and
Production Co and Operation Manager Mr F Rafin briefed him on drilling of the
4,685-foot-deep vertical well and the 8,421-foot-long horizontal well and
progress of work in laying of gas pipeline. Later, the minister and party
inspected the rig on board Marine 305. Rig 1 and Rig 2 of Yadana Offshore Gas
Project will drill one vertical well and six horizontal wells each totalling
14 wells.

Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence.

(B)		Acting Minister for Industry-1, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U
Aung Thaung received Chairman of Hiapcheong International Trading Co Ltd Mr
Wu Ching Sing of Fujian Province and party at the office of the Ministry of
Industry-1.

(C)		Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thaung received Managing
Director of Myanmar Investments Management Co Ltd (MIMCO) Mr Garry A Prior
and party at his office.

(D)		Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay received
Chief Editor of Faits et Projects Magazine Ms Delphine Evmoon at the City
Hall.
