(1)  Four more bridges to link Yangon with other areas
 
YANGON, 19 Nov-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen
Khin  Nyunt this morning inspected preparations for the construction of Maha
Bandoola Bridge,  Ngamoeyeik Bridge (Thingangyun) and Shwepyitha Bridge and
construction of Aungzeya Bridge  here.

 On arrival at the Maha Bandoola Bridge Construction Project site in the
compound' of No 12  Passenger Transport Bus Line of Road Transport in
Pazundaung Township, the Secretary-1 was  welcomed by members of the State
Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy)  Commodore Nyunt
Thein and Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than,  Minister for
Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun,
Minister at  the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Mayor of
Yangon U Ko Lay, Deputy  Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint,
Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue  Brig-Gen Than Tun, officials of the
State Peace and Development Council Office, department  heads and officials.

(2)   Myanmar win first prizes in International Traditional  Boat Race
 
YANGON, 19 Nov Prizes were presented to winners in Myanmar International
Traditional  Boat Race 1997 at Inya Lake at 4.30 pm today.

 Patron of Leading Committee for Organizing Myanmar International Traditional
Boat Race 1997  Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-l of the
State Peace and Development Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented silver bowls
to Myanmar team which won first in 22-ore men's  event, Thai team which won
second, and Philippine team which won third.

 The race was sponsored by ABC Stout.

 Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win
presented silver  bowls to Myanmar women's team which won first in 22-ore
event, Philippine team which won  second and Thai team which won third.

 Chairman of Committee to Ensure Success to Myanmar Sports Mayor of Yangon U
Ko Lay  presented silver bowls to Myanma first prize winner in men's 12-ore
event, Thailand second prize  winner and the Philippines third prize winner.

 Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun presented silver bowls to Myanmar
first prize winner  in women's 12-ore event, Thailand second prize winner and
the Philippines third prize winner.

 Members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy)
Commodore  Nyunt Thein and Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung
Than, Minister at the  Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung,
Minister for Education U Pan Aung, Minister  for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen
Saw Lwin, Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Win Tin  and General
Manager of ABC Stout also presented prizes to winners in hotel and company
 competitions and club team events.

(3)   Seminar on Human Resource Development and Nation  Building continues
 
YANGON, 19 Nov-Seminar on Human Resource Development and Nation Building in
 Myanmar sponsored by the Office of the Strategic Studies of the Ministry of
Defence continued at  the International Business Centre this morning.
Present at the second day session of the seminar were Deputy Minister for
Education Dr Than  Nyunt, Commandant of the National Defence College Maj-Gen
San Aung, the Deputy Chief of the  Office of the Strategic Studies and heads
of department, departmental heads, the rectors,  professors and associate
professors, historians, local and foreign journalists, editors of Myanmar
 Perspective magazine, local and foreign businessmen, personnel of Myanmar
Women  Entrepreneurs Association, Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare
Association (Central) and  Myanmar Red Cross Society, participating Myanmar
and foreign researchers and guests.

(4)   Minister visits Orbis International

YANGON, 19 Nov Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein studied eye surgery
onboard the  aircraft of Orbis International at Yangon International Airport
this morning.

 Accompanied by Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo, he arrived at the aircraft and was
welcomed by  Director-General Dr Hla Myint of Health Department, Deputy
Director-General Dr Wan Maung,  Deputy Director-General Dr Myo Myint of
Medical Science Department and Director Ms Kate  Gibson and party of the
Orbis.
They studied eye surgery on board the plane on TV.

 Later, they visited lecture hall and room for patients and eye operations in
the theatre.

 They also watched a documentary on Orbis functions worldwide.

(5)   Deputy Premier receives Millicom officials
 
YANGON, 19 NOV Senior Executive vice-president Mr Zaman and party of Millicom
 International Cellular SA paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister
Lt-Gen Tin Tun at his  office at 9 am today.

 The company is Sweden-based.

(6)   National Convention Convening Commission meets

YANGON, 19 Nov - National Convention Convening Commission held a meeting at
the  Commission office at 2 pm today.

 Chairman of NCCC Lt-Gen Myo Nyunt, Vice-Chairmen Lt-Gen Maung Thint and
Brig-Gen Myo  Thant and Commission members were present.

 Chairman of the meeting Lt-Gen Myo Nyunt delivered an address.
The respective committees presented matters on the legislature, executive and
judiciary.
 Commission members looked into their requirements.

MIC Chairman receives Head of Fif-Airconsult
YANGON, 19 Nov Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of Myanmar Investment
Commission  Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Head of Fif-Airconsult of
Frankfurt Main AG of  Germany Mr Gerd Beinsen and party at his office this
morning.

 Present also were Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development
Council Chairman  Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung
Maung and officials.

(7)   Myanmar businessmen meet members of Young  Entrepreneurs Association of

        Malaysia

YANGON, 19 NOV- A meeting between visiting members of the Young Entrepreneurs
 Association of Malaysia led by Vice-President Mr Stephen Anthonysamy and
executives of  Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Myanmar
businessmen was held at Traders  Hotel at 2 pm today.

 They discussed Myanmar business.

 It was attended by officials of the Ministry of Industry-1 and guests.

 The meeting will continue on 20 November.

(8)   Minister for L&F inspects ice factories, cold storages

YANGON, 19 NOV Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung
Thein met  officials of Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise,
Feedstuff and Medical Research  Department and Livestock and Veterinary
Department today.

 Managing Director U Maung Maung Nyunt of LFDPE briefed the minister on
functions sectorwise  and future programmes.

 He then inspected laboratories of FMRD.

 Later, he met officials of LVD.

 Accompanied by Deputy Minister U Aung Thein and officials, he inspected a
50ton capacity ice  factory, which is jointly run by Fisheries Department and
PL International Ltd of Singapore.

 At the 1,000-ton capacity cold storage of Myanma Seafood Ltd, he heard a
report on purchase of  fish and prawns and exports presented by
Director-General U Soe Win of FD.

 The minister stressed the need to strive to maintain quality of products and
to boost production and  exports.

 He inspected production of finished prawn and ice and quality control
laboratory.

 Chairman of the Board of Directors of Myanmar Beijing Fisheries Co Ltd U
Than Daing briefed  him on points of a 30-ton ice factory and a 300-ton cold
storage of MBFCL, Director-General U  Soe Win on progress of work and
Director-General U Kyaw Lwin of Directorate of Livestock and  Fisheries on
future programmes.

 The minister looked into the requirements of the two factories.

 During his inspection at Fisheries Training Institute, he heard a report on
20 different courses being  conducted by the institute presented by Principal
U Min Aung.

 He spoke of the need to bring out qualified service personnel, to teach
techniques to upgrade  export qualities, to disseminate fish and prawn
farming methods and to upgrade the institute.

(9)   Purchase of paddy harvested in 1997-98 through sealed  tenders
clarified

YANGON, 19 Nov-Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than clarified points on
 purchase of paddy harvested in 1997-98 through sealed tenders at the
Ministry this afternoon.

 The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Col Kyaw Shwe, advisers, the
directors-general,  managing directors and officials.
The Minister said bidders could submit their tenders for purchase of paddy at
minimum 10,000  baskets. They would have to submit their tenders for the pre
scribed amount of paddy for certain  areas, he said.

 He went on to clarify that bidders are to deposit K 100,000 at the Finance
Section of the Myanma  Agricultural Produce Trading or at the respective
States and Divisions.

 The deposit will be refunded to the unsuccessful bidders, he said, adding
successful bidders are to  carry on work after paying earnest money
equivalent to 5 per cent of the total amount within three  days.

 The Minister then replied to queries of those present.
