Burmese military bars Aung San Suu

BURMESE MILITARY BARS AUNG SAN SUU KYI FROM ATTENDING MEETING
	*************************************************************

Burmese military authorities have barred pro-democracy
leader Aung San Suu Kyi from leaving her residence to
attend a planned party meeting in eastern Rangoon.

Party and official sources said the leader of the National
League for Democracy was due to attend an NLD youth
meeting in the eastern Rangoon township of Tamwe.

Earlier, riot police threw up barbed wire barricades around
Ms Suu Kyi's Rangoon office, to prevent a planned meeting
between the Nobel laureate and the party's youth wing.

An NLD member told the Associated Press news agency that
riot police took away more than 20 youth members in buses.
