(1)		Myanmar Industrial Development Committee Meets

		Myanma Industrial Development Committee held its coordination meeting at
the Ministry of Industry-2 on 4 December with an address by Patron of the
MIDC Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo. In
his address, Lt-Gen Tin Oo said that Myanma Industrial Development Committee
was reconstituted with the Minister for Science and Technology as Chairman in
the time of the State Peace and Development Council. He noted that for
Myanmar's industrial development, Head of State Senior General Than Shwe
endorsed five objectives--development of agro-based industries, qualitative
and quantitative improvement of industrial products, production of new
industrial items, manufacture of industrial equipment, and acquisition of
good opportunities required for industrialization of the nation. A general
round of discussions followed and the meeting ended with the Secretary-2's
remarks.
 
(2)		English Proficiency Course of Ministry of Commerce

		English Proficiency Course (Advanced Level) No 1 of the Ministry of
Commerce commenced at the ministry. These courses are being opened with the
aim at increasing the number of youths who are proficient in English at the
time efforts are being made to be able to keep up with other nations in
international trade in accord with the market-Oriented economic system being
practised by the Government.
 
(3)		Minister for Health Hosts Dinner in Honour of Orbis International 
		Members

		Dinner was hosted in honour of members of Orbis International by Minister
for Health at Karaweik on 3 December. Minister accepted opthalmological
instruments and teaching aids donated by Director of Orbis International Ms
Kate Gibson.
 
(4)		Use of Hydraulic Pre-Stressing Jack Demonstrated

		Application of the hydraulic pre-stressing jack was demonstrated at
Ngamoeyeik Bridge (Parami) Project site on 4 December. It was sponsored by
Public Works and Pyigyisan International Co Ltd. Managing Director of Public
Works U Tint Swe and U Shwe Tun Maung of Pyigyisan International Ltd spoke on
the occasion. Next Managing Director Mr Colin Paterson of TMS Co of England
and officials explained the application of the jack. Designed with the latest
technology, the hydraulic pre-stressing jack can be used to build durable
beams of river bridges and large -span buildings.

(5)		World AIDS Day Talks

		Myanmar Maternal and Chil Welfare Association held talks to mark the World
AIDS Day at the Health Planning Department on 4 December. CEC member of
Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association Daw Yin Yin (Writer Saw Mon Nyin)
and Joint Secretary 3 of MWJA Dr Tin Tun Oo spoke. Deputy Minister for Health
Dr Mya Oo, directors-general, Honorary Patrons and CEC members of MMCWA, UN
agencies and others were present.
 
(6)		PRC Corporation to Help Produce Furniture

		China National Construction Machinery Corporation of People's Republic of
China and Forest Products Joint-Venture Corporation Ltd have agreed to
cooperate in implementing Myanmar-China Timber Finished Good Production
Project. Managing Director FPJVC and General Manager of CNZM of Ministry of
Construction of PRC signed the contract on 3 December. The Chinese
corporation will supply machinery and knowhow to FPJVC in providing raw
materials to private forest-based industries. The ten-year project will give
priority to manufacturing Chinese-style furniture for export. FPJVC has built
factories and buildings on a plot leased from Myanma Timber Enterprise in
Dagon Myothit South Township.

(7)		Yangon Division Working Committee for Women's Affairs (Economic 			
     Group) Holds Seminar on Economic Development

		Yangon Division Working Committee for Women's Affairs (Economic Group) held
a seminar on economic development at M-3 Food Centre on U Wisara Road on 4
December. Vice -Chairperson of Myanmar National Working Committee Women's
Affairs, leader of economic group and committee members, Chairman of Yangon
Division Working Committee for Women's Affairs Commissioner and committee
members, chairman of district and township Working Committees for Women's
Affairs and guests. Leaders of economic group and the Chairman of Yangon
Division Working Committee for Women's Affairs Commissioner spoke on the
occasion. Then, Daw Se of Ngwe Se Company, Daw San San Yi of Super 1 Company
and Daw Khin Swe Myint of Nawarat Trading Co gave lectures. Cash donation
ceremony was held there.

(A)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin
received Managing Director Mr Toshitsugu Konishi and party of Nippon Oil
Exploration Limited of Japan at his office.

(B)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin
received Executive Vice-President Mr Jean Desazars and party of Lafarge
Company of France at his office.

(C)		Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin received Regional
Director Mr Boonthan Mahavan and party of BB Group Co Ltd of Thailand at his
office.

(D)		Minister for Energy U Khin Maung Thein received Managing Director Mr
Toshitsugu Konishi and party of Nippon Oil Exploration Ltd of Japan, Chairman
Dr Prajya Phinyawat and party of Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTTEP)
International Limited and Chairman Tan Sri Dato' Mohd Hassan Marican and
party of Petronas of Malaysia at his office.
