(1)		Minister for Foreign Affairs Leaves to Attend ASEAN Environmental Affairs
Ministerial Meeting

		Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of National Commission for Environmental
Affairs and Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw left Yangon by air on 21
December for Singapore to attend the ASEAN Environmental Affairs Ministerial
Meeting to be held on 22 and 23 December in Singapore.
 
(2)		 Deputy Minister Leaves to Attend Admission Ceremony of Myanmar 			
to BIST-EC and Group's Special Ministerial Meeting

		At the invitation of the Chairman of the BIST-EC and Deputy Minister for
Foreign Affairs of Thailand Mr Sukhumphand Paribatra, Myanmar delegation led
by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe left Yangon by air on 21
December for Thailand to attend the Signing Ceremony for the Admission of
Myanmar to the BIST-EC (Bangladesh-India-Sri Lanka-Thailand Economic
Cooperation) and the Special Ministerial Meeting of the BIST-EC to be held on
22 December in Bangkok. BIST-EC, founded only on 6 June 1997, is a new sub-
regional economic cooperation grouping originally comprising of the four
States bordering Bay of Bengal; Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The
group was later joined by the Union of Myanmar on 25 August 1997 and Myanmar
will be formally welcomed into the grouping at the Admission Ceremony on 22
December 1997. Myanmar delegation will also discuss with the other members of
BIST-EC on renaming of the Organization as well as on various economic
cooperation projects and explore the concept of establishment of a BIST-EC
Airline for the sub-region.
 
(3)		Hiking and Mountaineering Technique Refresher Course Concludes

		Course for Judges and Hiking and Mountaineering Technique Refresher Course,
sponsored by Myanmar Hiking and Mountaineering Federation, concluded at the
Institute of Economics on 21 December.
 
(4)		Drug Seizures

		During 1-15 December 1997 various quantities of narcotic drugs were seized
by the anti-narcotic task force in various states and divisions in Myanmar.
The list of seizures are as follows;

		(a)	Opium				(356.0789) kilos
		(b)	Heroin				( 89.5671) kilos
		(c)	Marijuana				( 10.2462) kilos
		(d)	Opium Oil				( 0.001 ) kilo
		(e)	Methamphetamine			(2046552 ) tablets
		(f)	Amphetamine Base 		(470.8 ) kilos 
 
(5)		Beware of Credibility-Gap-Induced " Information Sheets "

		Credibility-Gap-Induced " Information Sheets " are being put into the
Internet (scb) and also being sent out my Mail in the United States with the
aim of tarnishing the authentic " Information Sheets ", it is learnt.
