(1)		Hsinhaing-5 Pusher-tug Launched
		The medium-sized Hsinhaing-5 pusher-tug built by Dalla Shipyard under
contract between Inland Water Transport and Yunnan Machinery Import and Export
Corporation of the People's Republic of China was launched at the shipyard on
3 January. The upgrading of the shipyard is under contract between IWT and YMC
and ten cargo barges out of 28 and three boats out of seven has been built in
the shipyard under the contract and the shipyard earned a total of US $
375,000. The Hsinhaing-5 pusher-tug, valued at US $ 836,600, is 28 metres
long, 7.5 metres wide and 2.2 metres high with the draught of 1.4 metres. It
can push or tow four 250-ton cargo boats. The Dalla Shipyard earned US $
50,000 for the tug.
 
(2) Labutta (Pinlelay River) Bridge in Myaungmya Township Will Expedite
Transport in Delta Area

		Labutta Bridge across Pinlelay River is commissioned into service for the
public use. The Bridge, 1,300 feet long, is a Bailey bridge and Myaungmya-
Labutta Road was built with the aim of enabling the people to travel from the
land to the sea in a very little time and get easy access to townships in the
southern part of Ayeyawady Division and Labutta Bridge across Pinlelay River
was constructed for the same purpose. Previously, waterway was the main
reliable means for transport in Ayeyarwady Division, nowadays extended motor
roads and newly-built bridges across the creeks and rivers are the major
contribution towards smooth transport. From 1988 to date during the tenure of
the Military Government, over 1,280-mile new motor road has been constructed
in Ayeyawady Division and bridges namely Myaungmya Bridge, Einme Bridge,
Athoke Bridge, Baikkalay Bridge, Kyain Creek Bridge, Uyin Creek Bridge, Nat
Creek Bridge, Hseikma Creek Bridge and Dedaly Bridge have been built. Maubin
Bridge will be completed in the near future and strenuous efforts are being
made for timely completion of Bo Myat Tun Bridge across Ayeyawady River near
Nyaungdon, there are many small bridges being built on self-reliant basis with
the contribution of the local people. Relevant authorities formally opened
Labutta Bridge and unveiled the stone inscription. The total length of the
bridge is 1,300 feet with the 600-foot-long main bridge and 16 feet five
inches wide motorway. Safe Passage under the bridge is 570 feet wide and
clearance is 35 feet high. The upper structure is one-way Bailey suspension
reinforced-concrete bridge and lower structure RCD reinforced-concrete pile
type. It can bear a load of 60 tons. The bridge is on Labutta-Myaungmya-Einme-
Kyaunggon road near Kanyinkaing Village.
 
(3)		Mya Kyuntha Amusement Park Opens
		Mya Kyuntha Amusement Park on the eastern bund of Inya Lake, on Kaba Aye
Pagoda Road was opened on 3 January. The park with a mini zoo and pleasure
rides including a giant Ferris Wheel and a carousel, restaurants and
foodstalls will be open daily from 10 am to 10 pm for public recreation.
 
(4)		Drug Seizures
		In Eastern Shan States on the 30th of December during an inspection at
Motorvehicle entrance and departure gate at the town of Linkhay, (19422)
tablets of Metamphetamine was found on a passenger who was bound to leave for
the town of Moe Nai in Eastern Shan State.
 
		Legal action will be taken against the person who was found carrying the
drugs and further investigation is going on regarding this case, it is learnt.
