Seminar on Sea Port Cities, Trade Activities Being

               Held in Myanmar

               YANGON (Jan. 11) XINHUA -
               Scholars and historians from 13
               countries are gathering here for a
               three-day seminar to study the port
               cities and trade activities in
               Southeast Asian history.

               The seminar, jointly sponsored by
               Universities Historical Research
               Centers of Myanmar and
               Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok,
               will promote better understanding of
               the present situation and will lead to
               more thorough cooperation between
               the member states of the region,

               Than Aung was quoted by Sunday's
               The New Light of Myanmar as
               saying.

               The seminar, which began Saturday,
               was participated by representatives
               from Australia, Britain, China,
               France, Germany, India, Indonesia,
               Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar,
               Singapore, Thailand and the United
               States.

               The seminar focuses on the rise and
               fall of some states in Southeast Asia
               with growth cases on inland and sea
               trade activities and 12 papers on the
               topics are scheduled to be
               presented.
