Subject: South Africa students team left for Bangkok to support Burmese
democratic struggle

Students from University of Durban Westville, led by Kiru Naidoo left for
Bangkok on Saturday, 18 January 1998 from South Africa. The Students team
will meet All Burma Students Democratic Front
(ABSDF) and going to visit the camps at Burma-Thailand borders.
Kiru Naidoo was the lecturer of Department of Political Sciences,
University of Durban Westville and he is a conveyer of Free Burma Campaign
(SA). He is also an Asia expert, at present he is a Director of Public
Relation at the same University.
The University gave honourary Award to Michael Aris ( Husband of Aung San
Suu Kyi) in April 1997, when he came to South Africa to accept honourary
Doctorate degree of Laws for Aung San Suu Kyi awarded by University of
Natal at Durban.
Burmese community from South Africa supported to the students team by
greeting them at airport and presented T-shirts printed Aung San Suu Kyi
picture.
Probably, in South Africa and Burma students history, this is the very
first time visit to Bangkok and give support to Burmese democratic
struggle.
[ The photos of students and the speech of ASSK delivered by Michael Aris
at the graduation ceremony of an honorary doctorate at University of Natal,
23 March 1997 can get at <burmamtk@xxxxxxxxxxx>.]
