(1)		K 12m Ngamway Creek Dam Inaugurated in Phyu Township to Irrigate 500
Acres
		Ngamway Creek Dam will irrigate 500 acres. The agro-based country Myanmar is
today implementing projects for availability of water for irrigation through
various ways. In keeping with Chairman of the State Peace and Development
Council's guidance on the task for easing of food, clothing and shelter needs
of the rural people and uplift of their living standard, priority is being
given to progress of the agric ulture sector. Thus, dams and reservoirs are
being built at appropriate places and river water pumping projects have been
implemented . Statistics show that before 1988, there were 79 dams and
reservoirs and that from 1988 to date, 85 dams and reservoirs could be built
in addition to successful implementation of 929 creek and stream embankment
projects for irrigation. Ngamway Creek Dam was built for the purpose of
expansion of sugarcane cultivation and, the conventional single-crop
cultivation system is being transformed into four-pillar crop cultivation
system. The dam was built with the aim of distributing sufficient water to
Zeyawady Sugar Mill and irrigating the nearby sugarcane plantations. Bawni Dam
Project is also being implemented in DaikU Township to irigate 6,000 acres, it
is learnt.
 
(2)		Advanced Course No 1/98 for Skilled Construction Workers Opens
		Advanced Course No 1/98 for skilled construction workers to be sent to
Singapore opened in the Panglong Hall of the Department of Labour in Dagon
Myothit (North) on 15 February with an address by Minister for Labour. The
course is jointly organized by the Department of Labour of the Ministry of
Labour and Sinmartech Co Ltd. The main requirement of the regional employment
market is to turn out skilled workers who meet the regional set standard and
with a view to systematically fulfilling the requirement of the regional
employment market, 
Advanced Course No 1/98 has been opened for 164 trainees. A total of 164
trainees are attending the one-month course. Technicians of Construction
Industry Development Board of Singapore will examine the trainees on their
skill. The qualified trainees will be presented certificates, and arrangements
have been made for them to get employment in Singapore.
