(1)		National Convention Convening Commission meets
		The National Convention Convening Commission held its meeting at the Meeting
Hall of the commission on 16 February. Various Committees reported on the
National Convention. Members of National Convention Convening Commission
presented supplementary reports to the meeting which ended in the evening.
 
(2)		Expediting banking Services Discussed
		Work coordination meeting of upper Myanmar bank mangers for 1997-98 was held
at the City Hall in Mandalay on 16 February. Minister for Finance and Revenue
U Khin Maung Thein said development of banking system plays a key role for
economic development of the nation and bank laws, rules and regulations have
been enacted in accord with the market-oriented economic system. He spoke of
expediting banking services and undertakings step by step toward money market,
reform of bank procedures, installation of modern equipment and making efforts
for emergence of a peaceful, modern developed nation. 
 
(3)		Two Officials Leave for Indonesia
		Deputy General Manager, Myanma Export and Import Services, Ministry of
Commerce, and Director of the Attorney-General's Office, left Yangon for
Indonesia by air on 15 February morning to attend WTO Regional Seminar on
Dispute Settlement Procedures and Practices for Asian Developing Countries to
be held in Bali, Indonesia, from 16 to 19 February, 1998, with the assistance
of the Netherlands and sponsorship of the World Trade Organization.
 
(4)		ASEAN-Japan Multi-Cultural Mission to Hold Paper-Reading Session in
Yangon
		ASEAN-Japan Multi-Cultural Mission led by Professor Khunying Maenmas Chavlit
of Thailand leading 10-member mission comprising delegates of Indonesia, Laos,
the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore and Vietnam arrived Yangon to study and
hold paper reading session on Myanmar culture. The mission will study Myanmar
culture and hold paper-reading session with Myanmar resource persons till 18
February.
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 16 FEBRUARY
(A)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin
received Chairman Mr A Mazumdar and party of Myanmar Tractors & Trading Co Ltd
at his office.
(B)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung received
President Mr Chuta Kulabusaya and party of Teparak International Co Ltd at the
commission office.
(C)		Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing received a delegation led by Mr
Erwin Marschewski of Home Affairs Commission of the German Parliament at his
office. 
(D)		Minister for Culture received Chairman of Home Affairs Commission of
German Parliament Dr Wilfried Penner and party at his office. They discussed
political, social and culture affairs.
