Senior Myanmar military govt official disowns son

YANGON, Feb 25 (Reuters) - A powerful leader of the ruling Myanmar (Burma)
military junta, Lieutenant General Khin Nyunt, on Wednesday disowned his son
by placing an advertisement to that effect in a local newspaper.

Khin Nyunt, Secretary One of the ruling State Peace and Development Council
(SPDC) and military intelligence chief, said in the advertisement that he had
disowned his son for doing something for which his parents could not forgive
him for.

``It is hereby announced that Dr. Ye Naing Win (holder of National
Registration No. 12/Ba Ha Na (Naing) 008140) has been disowned from being a
son for he, of his own volition, did something which (his) parents cannot
forgive,'' said the private announcement in the Myanmar Alin newspaper.

``You are kindly requested not to contact the family for enquiries,'' the
advertisement said.

There has been some speculation among people in Yangon that the general had
disowned his son because he had married a Singaporean girl. Under Myanmar's
constitution, anyone who marries a foreigner cannot run for office in
elections.

Spokesmen at the military government's information office declined to comment
on the advertisement. ^REUTERS@
