Singapore PM to visit Myanmar next week

YANGON, March 21 (Reuters) - Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong will make
a two-day official visit to Myanmar (Burma) next week, state media said on
Saturday. 

``At the invitation of the chairman of the Stqte Peace and Development Council
(SPDC) and Prime Minister of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe, the Prime
Minister of the Republic of Singapore Goh Chok Thong will pay an official
visit to Myanmar in the near future,'' the state-owned Myanmar News Agency
reported. 

A foreign ministry source said Goh was expected to visit from March 24. 

``During his visit, the two countries will sign a visa exemption agreement,''
the source added. 

Singapore had proposed direct foreign investment totalling $1.45 billion
involving 65 projects as of end of February 1998 and is regarded as the top
foreign investor in Myanmar. 

Goh last visited Myanmar in March 1994. ^REUTERS@
