Burmese HIV sufferers put in camps

A British journalist who spent a month in Burma's north-eastern Shan
state, says that many Burmese women testing positive for the HIV virus
are being detained by the military government and sold on to brothels.

The journalist, Adrian Levy, says he spoke to health and sex workers who
told him that the authorities were removing HIV sufferers from their
communities.

Mr Levy said that the government figure of thirteen thousand HIV cases
was drastically short of the actual number.

He said that aid agencies couldn't work in this area as HIV testing
could lead to more women being relocated.

There's been no word on the allegations from the Burmese authorities.
