(1)		FAO Senior Officials Meeting Concludes
		Senior Officials Meeting of the 24th FAO Regional Conference for Asia and
the Pacific concluded at Sedona Hotel on 22 April.
 
(2)		FAO, Myanmar Sign Technological Cooperation Agreements
		Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Government
of the Union of Myanmar signed technological cooperation agreements at the
Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road on 22 April.
Director-General of Agricultural Planning Department Dr Mya Maung and FAO
Resident Representative to Myanmar Dr Prem Nath signed agreement on
Agricultural Market Information Service and exchanged it. Next, Director-
General of Livestock and Fisheries Department U Kyaw Lwin and Dr Prem Nath
signed agreement on Regional Training on Shelf Stable and Low-Cost Meat
Products.
 
(3)		FAO Meeting Delegates Study Wetlands Reclamation in Nyaungdonkyun 
		Prime Minister of Tonga Mr Baron Vaea and delegates of 24 countries to
Senior Officials Meeting of the 24th FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the
Pacific visited Nyaungdon and Hlinethaya townships on 22 April. They studied
reclamation of wetlands in Nyaungdonkyun in Nyaungdon, Ayeyawady Division. At
Hsamalauk village, they observed prawn farms of Asian International Co Ltd.
The delegates visited Bo Myat Tun Bridge Project in the township. They also
visited Panhline Sluice. During their visit at Hlinethaya Industrial Town,
they heard a report on setting up of industrial towns and zones in Yangon and
studied factories and Nawade Garden City Project. They also visited Myanmar
Sea Foods Ltd.
 
(4)		More Delegates Arrive to Attend Ministerial-Level FAO Conference
		Respective ministers from various countries and members arrived at Yangon on
22 April to attend the 24th FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific.
 
(5)		Wood-Based Industry to be Established in Shwepyitha
		Myanma Timber Enterprise and Tawwin Family Co Ltd signed a contract on wood-
based industry at the meeting hall of MTE on 22 April. MTE and Forest Products
Joint Venture Corporation Ltd also signed Build-Operate-Transfer contract.
Wood-based industry will be established on ten acres plot of MTE near Wataya
Village in Shwepyitha Township with cent per cent investment by Tawwin Family
Co Ltd. It will produce parquets, various kinds of furniture, sawn timber and
other value-added goods with the use of teak and hardwood for local and
foreign markets. The investment for it is K 150 million including US $ 1.5
million. Forest Products JVC Ltd will build a 12-storey Business Centre on
0.41 acre plot at the corner of Botahtaung Pagoda Road and Strand Road with
the investment of US $ 4.445 million and K 33.97 million. The centre includes
offices, stores, restaurants, meeting hall and parking.
 
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 22 APRIL
(A)		Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation received Minister of Agriculture
Dr Sung Hoon Kim of Republic of Korea, at his office.
(B)		Minister for Health received Chairman of Mr Iwato Asahara and party of
Basic Human Needs Association, which is a Non-Governmental Organization in
Japan, at his office.
(C)		Minister for Information received Minister for Posts, Telegraphs and News
of Sri Lanka Mr Mangala Sameraweera at Myanma Radio and Television Station.
(D)		Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs received Deputy
Minister (International Affairs) Mr Shuji Kusuda of Ministry of Communications
and Posts of Japan, at his office.
		The Minister also received Minister for Posts, Telegraphs and News of Sri
Lanka Mr Mangala Sameraweera, at his office.
(E)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission received Executive Managing
Director Mr Keiichi Koseki and party of Ajinomoto Co Inc of Japan at the
commission office.
(F)		Minister for Home Affairs received Ms Edith and Dr Jose Echevarria-
Hernandez of International Committee of the Red Cross based in Geneva, at his
office.
(G) 		Minister for Finance and Revenue received General Manager Mr Y Kato and
party of Marubeni Corporation at his office. They discussed monetary and
investment matters in mutual cooperation.
(H)		Minister for Industry-1 received Business Development Mr Azlan Asidin and
party of M/S Petronas Mitco Sdn Bhd of Malaysia at his office.
