Two police agents abducted by a hilltribe drug gang in Mae Sot
district when an undercover opera tion went wrong were freed
              un harmed yesterday.

Police said exhausted Pol Sgt Am nuay Into and Pvt Theera
Prateep na Thalang were found walking about two kilometres
from Ban Pang Wua Luang at about 2.30 a.m. by police.

The Police Narcotics Suppression Bureau mounted a massive
search on Friday following their abduction on Thursday at Ban
              Pang Wua Luang.

The pair were posing as amphet amine traders and were
negotiating to buy with five Hmong drug mer chants, allegedly led
              by Ja sae Ma, 30.

The two officers said the dealers were supposed to hand over
amphet amines but they instead demanded 1.4 million baht for
64,000 tablets deliv ered at a previous meeting.

The traffickers said they wanted to change the hand-over
location when the policemen said no payment would be made
until all 200,000 tablets were delivered. The gang then searched
their car for money before holding them at gunpoint when they
discov ered documents which showed the two were policemen.

Pol Sgt Amnuay and Pvt Theera said the gang took them to the
hills before the police rescue team arrived in the village and
              negotiated their release.
