When the ruling Burmese Socialist Program Party led by Ne Win aks Shuu Maung
had done too much injustice to the Burmese people, certain segments of the
population rose up against the system.  All political uprisings which took
place in mid 1970's and in 1988 are the best menifestations of the people's
wishes to see an end to the existing military government. Yet the people have
not given up despite the fact that the lack of a feasible political solution
in Burma has caused their daily lives more miserable. Likewise, genuine
students and activists longing for a true credible leadership outside Burma
have not even thought about running away from the movement, which in fact HAS
BEEN EXPLOITED TOO LONG by a few crooks in FTUB and NCGUB. 

There are a few people and a few offices in India and Australia which are
financially supported by Maung Maung (FTUB), and needless to say, they have
attempted to divert the attention of Burmese audience overseas from the FTUB-
related problems to the well-known Shuu Maung's Affairs. 

The point which FTUB's thugs were trying to make across to the net audience
was that we, no matter how right we are in calling for NCGUB and FTUB to
change their
organizational structure and direction, should be silent about or put up with
the corruption of these few individuals in FTUB and NCGUB, because Ne Win aks
Shu Maung is such a greater thief taking more out of our country than Maung
Maung and his accomplices.

I only want to tell whoever supports FTUB for the purpose of getting a bite
from the Big Apple Pie Maung Maung (FTUB) has snatched from the white
governments' check-out counters that our fight for justice and truth is never
limited to the Burmese military only. No one has a right to limit our
intellectual inquiries about the funds misspent by FTUB and NCGUB. 

As of now, it is too late to protect the opportunistic guys in FTUB. We want a
face-to-face conference or debate in public with whoever is responsible for
FTUB and NCGUB, but never with a handful of followers who insanely make on the
net some comparisons between "Ne Win vs the whole Burma" and "FTUB vs
progressive Burmese students".  

The political picture of FTUB and NCGUB is hanging aslant. We have put up with
the crooks in FTUB and NCGUB too long. We can no longer afford to see that our
country Burma is halfing all she has and distributing it between the Burmese
military and the  managers in FTUB and NCGUB.    

We have a good cause to fight, so we won't give up.

P.S. I was merely one of the genuine activists of 1988, and I and many others
belong to 
       the Camp of the People. When we chose to serve the people, we did not
blindly 
       throw ourselves into the movement with a modicum of knowledge about    
       contemporary Burmese politics. The Camp decorated with Daw Aung San Su
Kyi's
       picture and her party NLD's logo may not know and speak the language we
use to
       identify ourselves. The 1988 popular uprisings in Burma had resulted in
the 
       emergence of latest demagogues. Further, the NLD's success in 1990
elections                                   
       has created a new class of worst visionless politicians who have
learned to enjoy  
       No. one opposition seat for ever. It is no make-believe, but the
saddest situation
       facing all of us.

Statement upon unlawful arrested of two unionists


(1) It has been a year pass since trade union leaders U Khin Kyaw and U
Myo
Aung Thant along with their family members were arrested by military
junta
on June 13, 1997. The two activists are the Central Executive Committee
members of the Federation of Trade Unions-Burma (FTUB).

(2) U Myo Aung Thant and U Khin Kyaw had been accused of performing
violent
activities. U Myo Aung Thant was charged for life imprisonment; still, U

Khin Kyaw is not brought up to the court and his fate is in uncertain
until
now.

(3) In fact that the two activists have organized the workers inside to
protect their respective rights due to international norms. Burma is a
country that ratified the ILO Convention (87) and (98): freedom of
association and the right to organize; still, the regime is not willing
to
allow free trade union movement since they took power in 1962.  This
incidence was very obvious example that there is no rule of law in
Burma.

(4) The present Burmese regime is not only disrespecting the Workers
Rights, which is chartered by ILO, but it is also violating the Basic
human
rights prescribed in UN charters.

(5) On the other hand, military junta hinder day to day activities of
the
National League for Democracy, and others. This shows that the regime is

responsible for all sorts of obstacles in the way to democratization in
Burma.

(6) Thus, we demand that the following situation must be changed;

1.  Release U Myo Aung Thant, U Khin Kyaw and all political prisoners
unconditionally.

2.  Recognize the result of the 1990 elections.

3.  Respect the decision of NLD party congress, which was taken on 27th
May
1998.

4.  Guarantee the Rights of Free Trade Union to exist and function.
