Maung Maung Khin' s Erroneous Speec

Yes there was a democratic system from 1948 to 1962. There was
democracy with the ominous spector of the military controlled by Ne
Win. Ne Win had the Tatmadaw harrassing the groups and people that did
not agree with him or would follow his demands. The Prince of Hsipaw
comes to mind who defide Ne Win and his followers and eventually
dissapeared.

Myanmar WAS the Union of Burma under the constitution. But the
military dissovlved the parilament and constitution. So, there is no
union without the constitution or legal agreements. 1962, the previous
version of the Tatmadaw (military) took power by force under the
direction of Ne Win. Ne Win had many people arrested and murdered as he
did with his comrade Aung San. From 1962, there has been no legal
government in Burma.

When Ne Win's tatmadaw took power, many ethnic groups formed their own
military groups to protect themselves from the Tatmadaw that would soon
try to take their freedom, money, and properties.

The tatmadaw leadership renamed themselves the SLORC in 1988 and now
SPDC in 1997. There were no real changes.

The armed groups returned to the so-called "Legal Fold" only because
they did not possess the endless supply of money used exclusively for
weapons and personel. Simply their supplies were exhausted after decades
of battle.
