Myanmar Writers Urged to Contribute More to Nation

            YANGON (June 23) XINHUA - Myanmar
            leader Lieutenant-General Khin Nyunt has
            urged literators to make use of their
            literary prowess to make the people
            strong physically and mentally. 

            Speaking at a conference of the Myanmar
            Writers and Journalists Association
            (MWJA), which began here Monday, Khin
            Nyunt, first secretary of the State Peace
            and Development Council, asked the
            literators to use their literary skill to
            educate the public for the materialization
            of the national objectives, official
            newspaper The New Light of Myanmar
            reported Tuesday. 

            He also stressed that writers and
            journalists must uplift the national prestige
            and integrity with their literary might. 

            The three-day MWJA conference is the
            second of its kind since 1993 and the
            MWJA has more than 4,800 members in
            145 township associations.
