Statement on the National League for Democracy's demand to convene a
parliament

1. The Federation of Trade Unions - Burma strongly supports the demand by
the National League for Democracy to convene a parliament within sixty days.

2. It is the responsibility of the military regime to hand over power to
the elected people's representatives of the 27th May 1990 election and to
convene of a parliament. It is the right of the elected people's
representatives to call for a convening of a parliament if the military
regime refuses to do so. The people had given their mandate to the elected
people's representatives and they have the right to convene a parliament.

3. The call by the National League for Democracy to convene a parliament
within sixty days is expressing the will of the people who had expressed
their choice by voting for over 80% of the representatives to the assembly.

4. We demand the military regime to fulfil the call by the National League
for Democracy and to act in accordance with the United Nation General
Assembly resolutions.

5. The international trade union solidarity movement supports and stands by
the calls of the National League for Democracy and warns the military
regime that will have to face the consequences should violent methods are
used crack down on the party.

6. We strongly urge the workers, farmers, students, monks and all the
people to support and participate in the clear political call of the
National League for Democracy.

· Organizes and form free trade unions and farmers unions.
· March with the unions.
· Support the National League for Democracy.
