Burmese activists say three NLD members arrested

Exiled Burmese pro-democracy activists based in Bangkok say the government
in Burma has arrested three senior members of the National League for
Democracy in Irrawaddy division, near the capital, Rangoon.

The Federation of Trade Unions in Burma said the three Mahn Johnny, David
Hlamyint and Dr Tin Min Htutwere detained after the NDL called on the
authorities to convene the parliament elected in May 1990.

The NLD won a sweeping victory in that election but the results were not
recognised by the authorities.

There has so far been no confirmation of the arrests by the Burmese
authorities.
