Burmese aggression Letter to =
editor 4 july 1998
I was shocked to hear that on June 25 , Daw Aung San Suu Kyi , Burmese =
pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace Laureate, was slightly injured in =
the scuffles with Burma=92s military regime security police while four =
youths members of National League for Democracy, suffered head injuries.
This is an open letter on behalf of the National League for Democracy =
(Liberated Area )Japan Branch to the international community urging them =
to condemn the lawless and violent activity of Burma=92s military regime =
. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been placed in physical danger ,though the =
military government has severely curtailed her activities.
Burmese people love Daw Aung San Suu Kyi,Burmese people trust her =
,Burmese people want her to rule the country. "Long live Aung San Suu =
Kyi"voices from the bottom of Burmese people=92s heart, could be heard on =
her 53rd birthday of June 19 in the whole country.
It is a feeling which prompts thousands of Burmese people to risk their =
lives and physical freedom by attending rallies outside her home each =
weekend. This clearly shows the powerful affection which the ordinary =
people of Burma feel for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi .The National League for =
Democracy led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is not just a political party. It =
represents a whole democratic movement in Burma. So restricting Daw Aung =
San Suu Kyi and NLD is tantamount to crushing democracy.
Particularly I like to tell one thing to the Japanese government that =
Burma=92s military regime is now desperate for foreign capital and the =
sad truth is they are getting it from Japan as official development =
assistance .
On behalf of the Burmese people , I therefore humbly request Japanese =
government to use your powerful economical influence to put pressure on =
Burma=92s military regime,the State Peace and Development Council,to =
stop their continued restrictive and repressive actions directed at Daw =
Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD members.
