(1)		Maha Bandoola and Ngamoeyeik (Thingangyun) Bridges Scheduled to
be Commissioned in Late and Early 1999 Respectively
Mahabandoola Bridge is 1,110.76  metre  ( 3643.33  feet )  long and the 
motorway 22 metres  (76 feet)  wide and walkways on either side are  1.85
metres  
(6 feet) wide each.  The four-lane suspension bridge across the Pazundaung
Creek will link Pazundaung Township with Dawbon Township.  The bridge is
scheduled to be commissioned into service in the late 1999. On completion of
the bridge, there will be smooth and speedy transport of goods between
townships in Yangon East District and Yangon downtown.  Ngamoeyeik Bridge
(Thingangyun)  is a reinforced concrete bridge which will link Dagon Myothit
(South) Township and Thingangyun Township.  The main structure is 700 feet
long, the approach road on Thingangyun side 1,400 feet long and that on Dagon
Myothit (South) 1,500 feet. The six-lane motorway is 72 feet wide with
walkways
on either side each six feet wide.  The Ngamoeyeik Bridge (Thingangyun) is
scheduled to be commissioned in early 1999.  On completion of the bridge there
will be smooth and speedy transport to downtown Yangon.

(2)		5th Conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information
(AMRI) Held in Bangkok 13-14 July

		The 5th Conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) was
held in Bangkok, Thailand on 13 and 14 July.  Minister for Information of the
Union of Myanmar attended the conference together with his  ASEAN
counterparts.

  The  conference  resolved  to  make  effective  use of the information  
sector in disseminating ASEAN policies and tasks not only in the region but
also in the world, application of Information Technology and promoting the
standard and maintenance of the websites keeping abreast of the times and
opening  ASEAN Satellite Channel by the year 2000.

(3)		Internet Technology Course Opens

		The opening ceremony of Internet Technology Course for Ministry of Commerce,
sponsored by World Trade Organization was held at Myanma Export & Import
Services in Yangon 16 July.  Altogether 30 trainees of various ministries and
private companies attended the two-day course.

(4)		60 Kilos of Opium Seized in Mongkai, Southern Shan State

		A team comprising members of Defence Services Intelligence Unit, Myanmar
Police Force and departmental personnel, while discharging the duty at Mongkai
checkpoint at 1.15 pm on 27 June, searched a suspicious  cart driven by Chen
Cha of Mongkai.  The team seized 37 packets of opium weighing 60 Kilos within
the bags of bran onboard the cart.  Action has been taken against the culprit
under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances Law by Mongkai Police
Station.

(5)		Minister for Home Affairs Receives ICRC Officials

		Minister for Home Affairs received Dr Markus Michael and Mr Toni Pfanner of
International Committee of the Red Cross at his office.

                     OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 15 JULY

(A)		Deputy  Prime  Minister  Lt-Gen Tin Tun   received  
Vice-President Mr Carmet Daban of Koortrade Company of Israel at his office.

(B)		Minister for Hotels and Tourism received President Mr Vikrom
Aisiri and party of Andaman Club Co Ltd of Thailand at his office.

(C)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission received Managing
Director Mr Shigeki Aso and party of Myanmar Megasteel Industries Ltd based in
Yangon.

(D)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission received Executive
Vice-President Mr Sohail Hammed Khan and party of Delta International Holdings
Ltd of Saudi Arabia at the Commission Office. They discussed Dala Island
Development Project to be jointly implemented by DHSHD and Delta International
Holdings Ltd.
