dictatorship (SPDC/SLORC/Tatmadaw) needs no help to destray the
country.  Most of the problems are due to the SPDC, not outsiders and

Western Bloc Threatens Myanmar through Media: Minister

            YANGON (July 21) XINHUA - A Myanmar minister has accused the
Western
            Bloc of threatening his country through the mass media. 

            "The West Bloc and their media are trying to disturb
stability, disrupt
            economy and unity and incite unrest in countries which do
not accept their
            influence," Major-General Kyi Aung, minister of information
was quoted by
            Tuesday's official newspaper The New Light of Myanmar as
saying. 

            "In so doing, they attempt to worsen the situation and apply
pressure," the
            minister noted when meeting with information and public
relations officers
            under training here Monday. 

            The minister also stressed the need to safeguard the
national character in
            the light of widespread penetration of the international
media. 

            He added that the ministry will provide the media personnel
with training at a
            time when the Age of Information or Information Super
Highway is being
            established.
