45 million people in Burma, who are held hostage by the military regime, =
would be very much encouraged if they were allowed to hear what the =
United States Secretary of State and other world leaders are saying =
about their government. As an expatriate for their strong statement =
against the military dictatorship in Burma. We also thank them for their =
concern for the hopelessness of people of Burma

However, rhetoric alone will not change the situation in Burma. Past =
authoritarian regimes in Burma were not conformable to reason. History =
is repeating itself in Burma. Burma became a colony of the British =
because the Burman king did not understand the reason behind the East =
India Company's intention of trading with the Burman. The First =
Anglo-Burmese War happened because the king=92s army invaded British =
territory in East Bengal. The second Anglo-Burmese War started because =
the Burmese Governor of Lower Burma could not be awaken from his =
afternoon nap, when the British admiral came to negotiate with the =
governor. The Third Anglo-Burmese War happened because there was gross =
human rights abuses by the Burmese court, where over eighty half =
brothers of the king were murdered in the most inhumanly manner by the =
order of the king.

The present authoritarian regime in Burma is not going to listen to =
reason. If the United States of America and the free World Nations are =
touched and concerned by the brutality and the human rights abuses of =
the regime, they can start by recognizing the NLD as the government of =
the Union of Burma. They can expel the SPDC UN Mission and replace with =
the representative of the NLD. The United Nations should send a peace =
keeping force to guard the well beings of the NLD and its leaders. The =
ranks of the Burmese Army will welcome UN peace keeping force because =
the soldiers of the Burmese Army are forced to be soldiers against their =
will. There is wide spread discontentment and desertion among the =
members of the military because they do not get enough food to eat or =
cloths to wear.

The high ranking officers earned their living through extortion and in =
the drug trade. Who else is going to transport the drug unless the =
Burmese Army is involved. They are the only who travel freely in Burma. =
They have been doing it for ages. If the world community wants to see a =
Burma with less drug production, and less abuses of human rights they =
have to act now. The generals are not going to be intimidated by the =
rhetoric. They will not listen to reason. The NLD have the mandate of =
the people of Burma. The only way to solve the problem in Burma is to =
listen to the wish of the people of Burma represented by Daw Aung San =
Suu Kyi and the NLD leadership. You heard the cry for help! Forty five =
million of them.=20
