press release no. 21 (08/98)

1.  a security unit guard has been assigned within the compound of the 
general secretary of national league for democracy shortly after her 
release from house arrest on july 10, 1995.  it was understood that the 
guards have been assigned with the mutual agreement between senior 
general than shwe (current head of spdc - the military junta) and the 
general secretary daw aung san suu kyi.

2.  as she no longer requires the present of the security unit guard, 
the secretary general has written formally to senior general than shwe 
on july 31, 1998 requesting to remove them from the post and off the 
premise.

3.  in addition, the secretary general has notified the captain in 
charge of the security unit zaw htoo aung and his team to vacant the 
premise within 20 minutes in the present of the central executive 
committee (of nld) at 11:10 am on august 6, 1998 morning.

4.  the general secretary also has made it clear that failure to comply 
with her request would be a violation of private property ownership, as 
well as illegal trespassing without the consent of the owner.

5.  the security unit team has yet to vacant the premises (of the 
general secretary) and still in the compound as of 13:45 hour.  further 
development will be announced.
