protests in japan



8th August 1998;
Various dissidents group in Japan remarked the 10th anniversary of
the 8.8.88, popular uprising in Burma. Over 100 members and friends
of The Burma Youth Volunteer Association-Japan, Burmese Women
Union-Japan, Burmese Rohingya Association in Japan, National League
for Democracy (Liberated Area) Japan branch and Students' organization
for liberation of Burma, marched in front of the Burmese Embassy located
at Shinagawa, Tokyo. After giving speech by U Win Khet, the vice chairman
of NCUB, participants shouted slogans with both Japanese and Burmese
language and marched along the roads of Tokyo.
Amnestry International Japan branch celebrated the anniversary by staged
a symposium on "Thinking on the human-rights and democracy situtation
in Burma after 10 years passed from 8.8.88" The panelists were Mr Ikeda
Kazuto(specialist on Enthic Karen), Mr Nemoto Kei (Professor of Tokyo
University) and Mr Ihara Junichi (Director of the first east division of
South East Asia, Ministery of Foreign Affairs -Japan).
At 8.08pm, 15 Burmese dissidents started a 60hrs long hunger strike in the
Hibiya Park at the centre area of Tokyo to protest against the military
junta, the illegal ruler of Burma. And also protest to The Japanese
government
on resuming ODA Aids to Burma. Mr Hosaka Nobuto, the Parliamentary Members
of the House of Representative, show up and gave moral support to the
hunger strikers. He is the member of Social Democratic Party of Japan. In
the
Statement on the 10th Anniversary of 8.8.88 issued by the SDPJ party, the
SDPJ
party fully support the calling for parliament before August 21 by NLD
Leaders.
