Six Thais have been released by Burmese troops while another four
Karen villagers remain in custody, local authorities said yesterday.

The villagers said they had been held at an operational base near Ta
Wah Camp opposite Ban Tha Song Yang and were forced to help
evacuate Burmese soldiers injured during a clash with Karen rebels on
 Wednesday.

However, the fate of the other four Karens is unknown, authorities
 said.

They were arrested in the early hours of Friday morning when they
crossed the border to fetch wild plants in Burmese territory.

In a separate case, a villager was arrested yesterday on suspicion of
collaborating with a group of armed men in robbing a Thai village last
 week.

Daeng Saengsawat has been charged with possession of firearms after
police found a M-26 hand grenade at his house.

Police said they have yet to investigate if the suspect collaborated with
a group of heavily-armed men in robbing the village.
