AP -- Aug. 20, 1998

Dion concert to be met with Burma protesters

(Boston) -- Human rights activists plan to protest at the Fleet Center to
morrow night when Canadian singer Celine Dion kicks off her 25-stop
concert tour in Boston.

Dion is not the target, but her sponsor is: the Swedish
telecommunications company Ericsson that has ties to the military regime
in Burma.

Concertgoers will be handed leaflets outlining concerns with Burma's
record on forced labor, torture and heroin trafficking.

Ellen Tuttle of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee said
Swedish-based human rights organizations have used the Internet to call
for a worldwide boycott of Ericsson's cellular phones and demonstrations
at sports and music events the company sponsors.
