DBSO USA Urges Prident Clinton to R

DBSO
Maryland State
USA

Dear President Clinton:

With respect, on behalf of the Democratic Burmese Students' Organization
(DBSO-USA) East Code, we, Aung Thu and Yin Aye, are writing this letter to
appeal you to support the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by 1991
Nobel Peace Prize Winner Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, which is calling for a
parliamentary meeting in Burma. The parliament will endorse the future
legitimate government of Union of Burma formed by the elected representatives,
who won in an election in Burma.

The NLD won 82 per cent of the parliamentary seats in the 1990 national
election. But the present military regime self-style State Peace and
Development Council (SPDC), formerly State Law and Order Restoration Council
-SLORC, refused to transfer power to the elected representatives. Instead, the
regime repressed, tortured, and jailed democratic leaders and their
sympathizers.

Nonetheless, the NLD faces countless harsh repression, it has relentlessly
been calling the regime to hold a meaningful dialogue between the democratic
forces and the regime itself. But the SPDC again ignored the calls for
dialogue. Thus, the NLD again requested the junta to call for parliament on
August 21, 1998. But the regime refused the request deliberately.

As a result, the NLD itself now calls for the parliamentary meeting to form a
legitimate government that has been mandated by the people, for the people
since 1990. And the government has therefore rights to govern the nation and
its offices. It is legal, and it is legitimate.

It is a moment of true for Burma and the United States itself to stand for the
Burmese-nationwide has been struggling to restore democracy, human rights,
peace and tranquility for a decade-by recognizing the new government of Union
of Burma via diplomatic channels by Mr. President. We heart-left thank you
again wish you and your family's peace, happiness, and devotion.

Sincerely,

Yin Aye (Representative)

Aung Thu (Executive Committee)
